Aerial Support! and Sanguinary Guard + more

February was kind of a dead month for me regarding 40k. A recent game which started off Rik and I's campaign presented me with both motivation and challenges for the future. My previous post was moany. The new Necrons are many things, boring isn't one of them. I've found ways and means and devised some devlish plans to tackle them. We shall see how they work out. Anyway, I present my counts as Sanguinary Guard, my Stormraven conversions, Mk1 and mk2 and some characters that will be featuring in the upcoming campaign.

P.S - Help me come up with a name for the Sanguinary Guard!

Sanguinary Guard - Counts as

The Black Scorpions have many ancient tradtions, the origins of which have long since been lost. One of their most peculiar ones are the XXXXXX. Their ancient code, written in forgotten dialect commands all members to 'Guard the dead lest they rise again'. What this refers to is unknown and their duties outside of the battlefield are largely ceremonial. On the field however, they are fearsome foes who wield cruel scimitars and vicious glaives. They wear the finest regalia and are only committed to battle when the time is right. When they do, they descend from the heavens and smash into the enemy lines usually breaking the will of the enemy.

Design notes: Finally! It took me so long to get all the bits together. I wanted to make a 10 man squad using the Scorpion Helm from the Forgeworld Sevrin Loth kit. They aren't easy to find and are usually expensive. I HATE the sanguinary guard swords and axes. I searched high and low for replacements and found ones I liked. They tie in nicely with the sort of egyptian/elemental/animal theme - Scimitars from Eldar Wraiths and pole arms from the Sepulchral Stalkers Tomb Kings kit. Mega huge awesome super thanks for Rik and Mons for giving me those bits. So here's 5 of them completed. Another 5 are currently in the works, this time with Chapter Banner. Coming Soon!

Stormraven - Counts as Aka 'The Thunderbolt'

The mad Techmarine Hephaeston designed and constructed the first Thunderbolt during the 3rd war for Armageddon. The towering spires of Helsreach were too cramped and dangerous for the Thunderhawks and the chapter itself was unable to rely on the imperial navy for air support. Hephaeston had an idea! A heavily armoured multi role gunship. He designed a ship nimble enough
to take on enemy fighters yet heavily armed and armoured. With it's VTOL capabilities, the Thunderbolt is able to loiter and wreak havoc amongst the enemy.

A well kept secret amongst the Legion is the strange way it carries marines into combat. Underneath the fuselage lies a strange glowing Orb. This device opens up a temporary portal allowing Marines and even Dreadnoughts to pass through, entering the battlefield in a flash of green light. The origin of this device is unknown. Some say is simply the genius of Hephaeston, others.... say it's is salvaged
Xenos technology. To this day is remains a closely guarded secret. Anyone outside the Legion who witnesses its function is quickly whisked away by the Admech for lenghty interrogation. So far, the Legion has avoided coming to blows over this design....so far.

Design notes: The Mk1 and the Mk2

Some of you may have seen the Mk1 before. It got quite a lot of press in its day, being 'conversion of the year' over on Spikey Bits and has been recirculated quite a lot. I often see it on various websites being featurued which is fun! Anyway, the mk1 was a bit plain, the fuselage needed more, it was a bit shoddy. I originally built 2 and it was time to improve the 2nd one. I added some gubbinz on it and smoothed out the top and it really make is look better. It kinda looks like a proper kit now. I'll be updating the original eventually.

The Original Mk1

The Mk2. Better right?

Tech Heresy! Is that Necron Green? Or 346Y Admech Approved Green?

Journalist Geddon Hak (deceased) took this photo during the Sigma Uprising. Admech analysis has been inconclusive

I Have to say... I'm very proud of these. My painting skills could be better, but overall these two look great together, when I get Mk1 updated I think they'll positively badass on the battlefield... then get shot down and explode. Also:

Flying bases are big! A great oppurtunity to do a small diaorama. Depicted here are the remnants of a planetary defence force holding the line! War is hell but the Black Scorpions are here!

Dramatis Personae

For the upcoming 'Conquest of Inor-Ez' campaign Rik and I agreed to come up with 3 characters, with a name and some backstory. How will they fare in the campaign? will they be slain or injured? or will they rise to the occasion and reap glorious victories? Only time will tell.

Lord Commander Cylander Azeron - The Soul Reaper

Cylander Azeron is dark spectre. Death incarnate that descends from the heavens instilling pure dread in his enemies. As a young boy he and his older brother Evodius witnessed their entire family be butchered by marauding pirates. Since that day Azeron has been one with death. He communes with it in his nightly prayers, invokes it during all of his daily tasks and personifies it when on the battlefield. In battle he wields The Red Horseman's Pick. An ancient terran war pick that smoulders with an evil fire. Azeron found it buried deep in a dusty tomb on Calixis IV, recognising it as ancient man-made weapon he seized it for himself and has carried since that day.

He has a flair for the theatrical and penchant for psychological warfare. Upstart rebels, heretics and enemies of the Imperium quickly abandone their cursed goals when they hear the Soul Reaper is coming for them.

Azeron has slowly risen through the ranks and now commands the infamous 9th expeditionary company. Under his leadership they have become a stalwart, dangerous and exceedingly efficient battle force. Criticism for unnecessary brutality and vicious excesses are a constant charge levelled at the company yet their record quashes such talk. Under Azeron's leadership Inor-Ez will surely be conquered and it's hidden treasures plundered by the Legion.

Archdeacon Evodius Azeron- Angel of the Emperor's Wrath

Evodius Azeron is the high-chaplain of the Black Scorpions. He maintains the Legions spiritual purity and extols his fellow marines unto greater acts of heroism and carnage. His wargear is unique among the space marines is that his jump-pack is a fully functional set of biomechanical wings. The origins of this strange piece of technology are a well kept secret but many know of it's existence.

He and his brother, Cylander are two sides of the same coin. Cylander's name is spoken with dread whilst Imperial citizens across the eastern fringe invoke the name of Evodius, the golden angel, he who brings the Emperor's wrath. He wields a gigantic power scythe which he uses to reap a terrible toll on the enemy. The very sight of this pious, honourable warrior drives those loyal to the emperor on with extreme fervour. The tide of battle has been turned many a time by the sudden appearance of this majestic warrior.

His golden armour and alabaster wings belie a dark secret. He is plagued by dark visions and terrible nightmares. He sees a dark future and is keenly aware that the Legion is slowly descending into madness. With each passing year the bloodlust the Legion displays grows stronger, and slowly they descend closer to madness. He works tirelessly to find a solution yet time is running out. This quest has often put him at odds with his unstable brother. They rarely speak and have grown further and further apart as the years go by.

Strange voices call to him at night. They invade his dreams and disturb him daily. Evodius has followed this voices to IV-85. Evodius will either find what he's looking for... or silence these strange voices with the swing of his scythe.

Librarian Stokahn Hammerhand - The Hellbreaker

Stokahn Hammerhand is a strange, dangerous figure of the Legion, feared and respected. A relatively novice librarian yet powerful and wise beyond his years. His first encounter with the denizens of the warp would be brutal baptism of fire, one that would be leave him scarred and bitter.
While fighting an Ulthwe force on Perisar, Stokahn, battled a group of warlocks. His formidable sword skills held them off while they dueled back and forth. During a moment of weakness the warlocks unleashed a powerful physic attack that momentarily stripped Stokahn of his psychic barriers. Daemons of all shapes and sizes flocked to the unprotected mind. Wracked with pain, Stokahn writhed on the ground as the daemon took hold. The warlocks, realising their mistake fell upon Stokahn in an attempt to stop the possession. Before they could finish him off, Stokahn's squad came to his rescue, gunning down the warlocks. It would be their final act...
What used to be Stokahn now arouse, fire in it's eyes and a soul of darkness. The possessed marine slew his squad and roamed the battlefield, wild-eyed and enraged. Stokahn however, was not finished. A titanic battle was taking place in the warp. Stokahn's soul had somehow survived and now battled the daemon with every fibre of his strength. In an incredible feat of willpower Stokahn managed the almost unheard of feat of 'self-exorcism'

Stokhan awoke on the body-strewn battlefield, his body was rent and torn but he roared in triumph. His victory was short lived. Stokahn saw his reflection in a pool of water. The possession had left terrible scars. Two gnarled black horns protruded from his head and his teeth were now a row of sharp fangs. Stokahn found his way back to the Legion. Most chapters would have slain him on the spot but Legion Master Kaine decreed otherwise. Kaine delivered Stokahn to Inquistor Silas Alberec and a company Exorcists, with whom Kaine has fought alongside during the 3rd War for Armageddon. For two years Stokahn remained in their custody. He was returned to the Legion with new purpose and declared pure by the librarians of the Exorcists. To this day Stokhan serves with honour and has proven himself particularly skilled at combating warp denizens. He never talks about his time with the Exorcists, nor his titantic battle with the daemon but it is safe to say, he learned much. He is accompanying the 9th to IV-85. He believes it hides something dark, and there is no better man for the task than The Hellbreaker.

Re-based on a 32mm base.
