Swamps 2.0!!!

Hello,

About 5 years ago, Rik and I decided to dust off our warhammer and play a game. It'd be my first game in almost 8 years or so (last time I'd played was 3rd edition back in High School)

I decided I would bash together some scenery for our game. I grabbed some cardboard and bits and made a few ruined buildings, a hill and a swamp! They were fine efforts but really quite crap. Ever since then I've wanted to sit down and make some proper swamp scenery. After 5 years I finally decided it was time.

Here goes!

Swamp Nr 1 - Dead dude and Turret

Making these was a challenge. I wanted them to seem deep. Adding depth means painting in the depth. Painting isn't my fortè but I tried. I had a box of old bits and decided to make some sunken wreck stuff.... and a Dead guy.

Swamp 2 - The Dead Grox

I wanted this one to be slightly larger, slightly flatter and look shallower. I found a cool skeleton thing from an ogre kit and decided to use that. The plants I used were a bit tropical but there isn't much I can do about that. I added some more metal garbage and an oil drum to tie it in with the others.

Swamp 3 - The grim fate of Tank 34

This is my favourite. I had an old chimera that was all beat up and badly sprayed. I decided to use it as a sunken wreck. I like to think the scenery can tell a story about what's happened and leaving little clues around are fun. I like to think the tank got stuck in the swamp and then taken out by a well placed anti tank shot... blowing the turret clean off!.

Someone rolled a 6 on their Dark Lance shot!

Like butter!

Exit wound!

I liked the idea of the swamp slowly breaking the tank down and sucking it down into the murky depths.
The Cadians always seem to get it rough!

Should look good in battle reports!
Thanks for stopping by. C&C welcome!

Random Battle Pics!

An Epic Confrontation!

So time passed, and schedules clashed. A day of fighting elluded us until 'Zup, you busy this sunday? Slug fest?' This fell into place suddenly with annoying schedules finally allowing something decent. Rik, Eivind teamed up against Myself, Jack and Big Willy.

The Forces? Dark Eldar, Eldar and Blood Angels w/ Guard allies trying their best to fight off a horde of Necrons and Tyranids. The dreaded Harridan would be featuring!

Ze Table! We were playing short edge toward short edge!

Necrons dudesmen!
Conclusion?

Well, the Dark Eldar/Eldar Alliance along with the Space marine are guard proved too strong for the unholy necron/tyranid alliance. My artillery pounded them repeatedly and my terminators held the line well. The two wraithknights did their usual business and loomed as scary fire magnets. Wraithguard and dark eldar archons caused chaos in the enemy rear and the insane amount of venom/splinter cannon fire was just witheringly strong!

The Harridan survived until the last turn when it was finally laid low by splinter fire. It had shrugged off a ridiculous amount of firepower.

I tried out the new Land Raider Excelsior/Rhino Primaris combo. Nice but pricy unit.

Highlights

Jack's wraithknight performed really well. It took 5 wounds to the face early in the game but survived long enough to wipe out 20 warriors, a monolith and then took on a stonecrusher carnifex before losing its last wound. Respectable indeed!

My own personal highlight was vapourising a Tyrannofex with a Beast Hunter Vanquisher shell. A roll to hit, a roll to wound and failure of a 2+ cover save resulted in Ichor and bone exploding for a nice First Blood victory point.

End Result? 11 - 1

Tough maelstrom card drawing ruining the day for the unholy alliance! Also, Eivind's more useful army/models were at another location so sub-optimal list was taken in terms of synergy and nastiness.

Good times.

Sanguinary Guard + Priest!

Hi,

I finished off my sanguinary priest today. Running one of these with the Sanguinary Guard is quite useful. Extra weapon skill is nice and that feel no pain has saved me many times.

I'm still getting use to my new camera. It's a huge step up from my cybershot. I'm having trouble focussing on the right parts of the models. I think I may be getting too close when I try my squad shots so forgive me for sub-par pictures. They'll get better. I've only scratched the surface of the functionality of the camera.

Anyway, here are the models! First up: Battle Surgeon Gratus AKA 'The Vaccinator' :-)

I'm here to give you your injection!
My chapter is a 'counts as' Blood Angels so most of the time I have to come up with suitable reasons or explanations as to why I get certain rules. I dislike the whole blood-chalice, sanguinius death induced rage idea and prefer to say that my Battle Surgeons (priest) use combat drugs and strange poisons to further enhance my space marines. Gratus features vials and hoses and all sorts of gubbinz but his main talking point is his combat drug injecter! :) (taken from Fabius Bile)

Small rant: Why the f**king F**CK do GW insist on making awesome models, then give them dumb rules or rules that make no sense? The Original Blood Angel sanguinary priest (not my one) cannot take Artificier armour despite the fact that the GW model is CLEARLY wearing it. Grrrr.

A much better picture than before!

Slice you!

Also, this. Cos it's fun!
